for my Father A.O.Johnson>>> veteran of WW2 and Korean war. Two purple hearts and the Silver Star for bravery above and beyond the call of duty.

dear daddy
i just wanted to write
to say happy birthday
I love and miss you
and after all this time
accept you werent perfect
I am not either
so how can I judge at all
we both did our best
I understand now
you knew all along
what was important
love and family
you had plenty
raising nine children
when some wont raise one
says a lot for me now
although you fought two wars
they were fought for freedom

not for lies and oil
yet they haunted you still
thank you for the friendship
we had as we got older
thank you for everything
what you could do
and somehow more important
the things you couldnt give me
you gave me unconditional love
that was and will
continue to be enough
happy birthday daddy
as you loved me
I also love you

I cried after I wrote the poem. It took a longtime to forgive and under stand him. I will write more on my family. They are my favorite thing to write about although painful. Thanks for the review. It brought back those long uncried tears

Thanks you Karen. He was very brave and was awarded his medals for saving mens life while woulded them collapsing after all the men were evacuated from loss of blood> We never knew this till he die. I have documentation of the incident fromt the army
