childhood scribbles

childhood scribbles

A Poem by daniel lee johnson
"

true story

"

my five year old nephew
scribbled in my book of poems

I look at childhood scribbles
are they much different from my own

for one day I will look back
at the poems today I write

and see the childish scribbles
very different than I might

but they too look like poetry
to my unsure eye
so I save them anyway
though I dont know why

We are all works in progress, for sure. Scribbles can be interpreted in so many different ways. Enjoyed!

this poem largely wrote itself. I often edit my poems but this is exactly the way I wrote it sans editing. Thanks for reading and reviewing this simple poem.

now as adults, we have scribbles of a different sort.
but either way...the purpose might be hard to decipher.

You are very forgiving of your five year old nephew! And that is as you should be. You can rewrite the poems should they be of a valuable nature. You did the right thing Dan and you wrote a fine poem as well!

I like to look back on older writes and scribbles; they are my mile-markers. It's never bad to be able to look back at how far you've come.
