Bull's Eye

Bull's Eye

A Poem by Daniel DelMonacco

Bull's Eye

I was in love,
When you first walked by.
Aimed my future towards yours,
Bull's eye.

Changed everything I knew,
I lived as a spy.
I wanted to tell you how I felt
But I was too shy.
Then six years later,
Bull's eye.

Selling my camera,
I was barely scraping by.
Log onto Facebook,
********* ********* has sent you a reply.
This is my last chance,
Bull's eye.

Ridge Motorway, 2 years ago,
Underneath the night sky,
Leaned in for the kiss,
My stomach in knotts I can't untie.
You finally see me.
Bull's eye.

Every moment with you
Sober, but high.
I'd do anything for you
Even gravity I'd defy.
You echoed when I said "I love you."
Bull's eye.

A month hadn't passed
When you told your first lie.
Looked me in the face,
Not a studder, not a cry.
Never felt so alive,
Even though I wanted to die.
So I did the worst to myself,
I stayed nearby.
That part really hurt,
Bull's eye.

So here I am again,
Living like a spy.
This won't last long,
Because the end is nigh.
Then on your 21st birthday
I walked in on you with another guy.
Your lips on his neck,
His hand on your thigh.
This was an image
That I couldn't deny.
I knocked on the right door,
Bull's eye.

Now they all think you're beautiful,
Mistake you for a butterfly.
But you're just a rhino beetle,
No, a spanish fly.
But I still saw you the next day
Let you say your own goodbye.
"I messed up real bad,
That I admit.
But you don't know what you have
until you lose it.
So now I'm ready,
Now I can commit."
Bull s**t.
