Runaway

Runaway

A Poem by Daniel DelMonacco

Cut me open,

let me bleed.

I have chosen to

no longer proceed.

Gather my blood

my dear brother.

Let it not be seen

by our sweet mother.

Throw out these lungs

so deprived of air.

"I'm going to quit smoking,

I promise, I swear"

You wont find my liver,

this is no twaddle.

Answers were not found

at the base of the bottle.

Pull out the freeways

that were once so red.

Lay me down

and split open my head.

Burn both my eyes

for they've seen enough.

They saw all your lies

and they called your bluff.

Now wrap your hands

around my brain.

F**k you, you b*****d,

you were wrong Twain.

Don't bother searching

for my once warm heart.

She plucked it out

and ripped it apart.

Now all that's left

is a sad sack of bones.

You know what to do

with that pile of stones.
