Daze

A Poem by Danielle Calhoun

DREAD FILLED DAZE

Johnathan: August 2009
Johnathan: August 2009

That dreaded day is soon to arrive
soon my son will be turning 5

But that doesn’t compare
to the emptiness I’ll feel
when my son sets off
on his first day of school

Today he is shopping
for clothes and other things
as I think of what to do
when he is not here

I have my site
my friends and my blog
but what’s a Mom to do
when all that is done

Should I sit on my duff
and continue to watch the clock
or should I take advantage
and go for a walk

Or…

Do I just wonder
what he’s doing there
as my son sits in class
with others his age?

That dreaded day is soon to arrive;
soon my son will be in school

Then he’ll turn 5…

I agree with the poem. My grandsons are three. I'm kept busy by them. I like to hear the noise of them running through the house. One day I will miss the noise and not enjoy the quiet. Thank you for a excellent poem.
