DO YOU KNOW?

DO YOU KNOW?

A Poem by Danielle Calhoun

DO YOU KNOW?

Do you know?
What it is like to be me?

Shy as can be,
Not meant to live past three,
Not meant to walk,
Not meant to be,
Afraid of rejection,
Not wanting too much attention

Do you know?
What it is like to be me?

Crying at night,
Afraid to turn out the light,
Waking alone,
Wondering what you did wrong,
Looking at the sky,
Wishing you could fly.

Do you know?
What it is like to be me?

Not wanting sympathy,
Not wanting to cry,
Not wanting to be alone,
Afraid soon I could die.

Do you really know?
What it is like to be me?

Well, do you?

Few people do we allow in a life. No-one know me. I became someone else for family and friends. We open the door to few people to know what we are and what we feel. It is sad in a sense. We have the ability to love many people. And love so few in a life. I like the question at the end of the poem. A excellent poem.
