Dealings

Dealings

A Poem by Danielle Calhoun

DEALINGS IN LIFE

Dealing with things that I would rather not alone

Like raising a child in a place I call a hell hole
I remind myself daily that I have one saving grace
A God who watches over me and a family who cares

I know there are times when I feel they’ve done me wrong
But I can never forget the things that happened because

My mother and father gave me a fighting chance
My God gave me the pleasure of one final stand

To prove to the non believers the ones who had thought
I’d never make it I would never walk I shouldn’t have a child

Oh what were they thinking of, for there is a God
And my family all who felt that I deserved to be what I could

So I think of this often and I say a prayer
One I was taught by a friend not too far from here
I think of my dealings and I am glad to be on my own

I will somehow make it I will never feel alone
