Another Day in the Life of Motherhood

A Poem by Danielle Calhoun

ANOTHER DAY IN THE LIFE OF MOTHERHOOD

I woke up this morning to the ringing of the phone
I let the machine get and it was my Mom
I fell back to sleep much to my dismay

I woke up to a monstrous face

Red and white and green and blue
Johnathan had found my paints

Oh you

Would never believe what else I saw
Paint on the bed, his clothes and the walls
I woke with a start and ran to my bath

I filled the tub with a new found flair
I gave him a bath and I cleaned up the walls

You would not believe what else there was
I found a grey hair on my shoulder

Just another day in the life of a single mother
