A Sorry Essay

A Sorry Essay

A Poem by Danielle Calhoun

A SORRY ESSAY

These are the things I’m sorry for:

Sorry for being born as I was
Sorry for hurting the man I once loved
Sorry for allowing myself to be abused
Sorry for allowing myself to be used
Sorry for being a single mom
Sorry for being unable to hold my head high
Sorry for crying even when it’s right
Sorry for feeling alone when I turn out the light
Sorry for allowing my friends to see me this way
Sorry for asking knowing come what may

I try so hard to believe there is a God,
I try so hard to pray to the Heavens above;
I try so hard to be the person I am not

I try too hard and sometimes want to give up

Why is it so hard for me to feel love?
