A Shared Journey

A Shared Journey

A Poem by Danielle Calhoun

A SHARED JOURNEY

She used to sit at her window alone
Dreaming of a world that was once her own
But soon she shares the journey with the child she bore

He sits down beside her and asks her what they are waiting for
Just as the moon is rising a light as bright as the sun

Streaks across the horizon and he stands and looks steadily on
Following the figure that he never knew existed in this world

What it is he is not sure

He believes in angels and he believes in God
But this creature he is seeing is nothing but a surprise

As she touches down and her mane does sway in the breeze the night winds

She lowers her beautiful head

He walks up to this creature as he touches her so
He suddenly is taken to where his mother once had gone
She watches in the window as he rides the sky

A mother and her son soon sharing in this delight
As another is running across the deep dark night

The light it gives just the same as the Pegasus her son rides
They hold on tight and never let go and then they come back home
She holds him as he sleeps and he whispers, “I love you Mom”
