A Robin Sings

A Robin Sings

A Poem by Danielle Calhoun

A ROBIN SINGS

A robin came to my window today,
Singing and talking as it sat on a limb,
Then it saw me, and I thought it would leave,
But it still sat there, twittering and tweeting,
Letting me listen to the song it was singing.

I sat there for what seemed like hours,
Then the robin flew away, leaving me there,
I still can hear the tune it played in my head.

When I close my eyes, I see the sweet bird,
As it sings along, on top of its perch,
Sometimes I feel like it’s been here before,
I saw one much smaller, not too long ago.

Maybe another, or maybe it grew,
But no matter what I’m sure I’ll remember the tune,
That the robin sang in the early afternoon.
