A New Day

A New Day

A Poem by Danielle Calhoun

A NEW DAY

Hooves that clatter with her trot
on the cobblestone walk of life
mane as soft as the finest silk
body tall as the mightiest oak
astride her back a maiden small
hair as black as deep dark coal
eyes that shine like the moon
smile as brilliant as the stars
lips of burgundy the reddest of wines
skin as pale as morning sunshine
walking past the old stone bridge
the place where dreams go
and memories live

Walking beside them another steed
different from the other but just as unique
golden hair and silver lined hooves
tall as timber just as light on the stones
sitting astride another maiden fair
eyes as deep as the deepest soul
hair that shines as the moon glows
skin as deep as the beaches sand
taking the walk
to the land

Where they meet others of their kind
maidens of freedom on the steeds astride
