I Drift

I Drift

A Poem by ghjckukc offcuo

that all too familiar sinking,
drowning;

down,
down,
down;

where lights fade,
and muscles grow weak;

the sound of your voice, an infuriating ring,
I think;

but no, I can't think;

I drift;

don't say my name,
I'll dream;

dream of what's to come;

finding burns in the sheets,
was that me?

I don't know what you said;

just hang up the phone,
just hang;

I won't pretend I'm anything,
you won't;

and everything feels so soft and smooth;

am I breathing?
I thought I had a cigarette;

no, I can't think,
I can't remember;

my body hurts;

you saw me at the store but there was just so much more,
where were you?

I drift;

I dream;

I close my eyes,
so weak;

I drift,
sinking,
down,
down,
down
