Murky SpringA Poem by Dan HerahA blue
butterfly hatched between the cracks of its cocoon spread
its wings black
legs grabbed the green branch. Tears
fell on the butterfly, lightning shook the yellow branch. The blue
butterfly held on. The daisy
waved to the butterfly in the wind. Between the petals, black eyes
watched the next victim. They crawled slowly, up the
trunk, around the tree wart, past the squirrel, onto the branch, past the
chirping bird nest. It stopped,
slowly descended from the branch, sunbathing
and smelling the flowers in the wind. The
butterfly took off the branch escaping. It flew into the spider web,
suffocating. Children screamed in the bus as it passed through the spider web. © 2015 Dan HerahAuthor's Note
