Techies

Techies

A Poem by Dante Balsote

I tell you, you are as good as hacked.
There's a short circuit here, right here.
The current flow is on a backtrack,
Makes you slow to react.
You've got a pretty good transistor
And lots of them too,
A super fast multiprocessor,
All in all, good for store.

But you are as good as hacked, Mech"
Your pieces don't connect, Auto"
I admire your fast thinking, Tech"
A perfect machine but what the heck"

Your broken relationships says you are vain;
What you need now is rewiring of the brain.

An amazingly well written piece with an infectious rythm to it. Technology has many useful purposes such as breakthroughs in science and medicine but I look at how people over-rely on it so much. For example, how people have little mini televisons in the back of their suburbans for their children to watch or 15 year olds walking around with seven hundred dollar cell phones. To me there is such a thing as an excess-commodity. An excess-commodity is a commodity that has no other pragmatic value except to be sold. Giga pets are a good example, giga pets were these little electronic toys that were popular here in america about a little over a decade ago and were utterly useless. Yet kids went wild over them and the manufacturers probaly made millions for awhile. The point is, that this consumer driven society is so oversaturated that the concept of use-value is no longer the same and technology has played a huge part in that. I'm just trying to say that "false needs" play a huger more dominating part in our society and thus on our concisousness.

I'm sorry if this is rambling and might not have anything to do with the poem. But this is what the poem made me think. Kudos and well done.
