Earthquakes

Earthquakes

A Poem by grey

you cause my earth to quake
unsteady for the shake
I reach for you
but you look away
and leave me to stay
while you save yourself
I go down
but you’ll be mad if I drown
so for you I will fight
with all of my might
while you take flight
and disregard my fright
you demand I stay alive
but you won’t even dive
dive deep down into the depths
to witness my dying breaths
why should I live for you
if I gave all I had to you
you drank the cup dry
it had not even the moisture to cry
to beg you to cease
and have mercy if you would please
so do not pretend to care
only when someone else is there
go save yourself from the sea
and let me go peacefully

Author's Note

grey
Written by a 16 year old about an abusive relationship. Two actually, a parent and a lover (separately) but still where I was left to pull my head above water. I don’t want to focus on the pain any longer, but if I can help someone feel less alone by sharing my writing, then at least it was for some good. Thank you for reading. It has been 4 years since I wrote this, I am now in a good place, just sharing for teens or people who may be desperately alone to know someone else lived it and though it was the hardest thing they ever had to do, but made it to the other side.
