An Imaginative Mind Would Never Stray

An Imaginative Mind Would Never Stray

A Poem by Dan Bullock
"

I was sat cross-legged on the train with my little book, some people stared at me like a weirdo, so I wrote this for them...:)

"

They trapped me with a curious stare

At a loss to how I might be where

I could just sit with a paper book

And a pen, I drag in confused looks

I am not concerned by unusual ways

Normality breeds contempt, I say

As I sparkle beneath the rolling skies

Past the stations that flicker my eyes

I think some may have misplaced

Their minds in his creature race

A drug of choice? Nay! I say!

An imaginative mind would never stray

Instead, some, choose to pretend

That what they want should never offend

A perfect job with a tie, a suit

Weekends off and the same old route

So here I realise, I’m okay

As I sit crossed-legged in the stumbling fray

My intentions good and my honour true

And soon I will be home to you

Haha, yes, of course. It is always hard to believe society claims that being a writer is crazy. I did hear someone said to me once, "You're crazy to be a writer." Why not? I do agree that it is correct. I like the title of your poem, "An Imaginative Mind would Never Stray". Indeed! Being a writer, you need to have a crazy mind that is able to create incredible stories whether it'd be to satisfy the readers' appetite or... otherwise.

I think sitting cross-legged in public is fine. I did that a lot of time, especially when I'm in any coffeehouses, take off my shoes, and just relax. Definitely get a quite a number of stares. But, hey, I don't care. lol, I'm a writer, that's what I'll tell them :)

Thanks for sharing :)

A well-constructed poem, confidently done. I've never been one of those mainstream people and wouldn't want to be. If someone looks at you strange because you're writing, it must be they who have the problem.

I'm putting this in again as the first time the system wld not let me put a score of more than 50 pct...so I try again...

It's true, those who write are not quite part of normal life. But that's what sets us apart and perhaps makes us special, as but for those with note books and pens and the inclination to write there wld be nothing for those who gawp to fill their empty heads with by reading...and some who start off as you describe may end up writing film scripts one day. Who knows? But it starts with a little book and a pen.

Wow, how I can relate to this. It's a wonderful poem with a subject that us weirdos can certainly parallel with. And those people don't know how much fun and excitement we have with our weirdness, lol.

Great job!
