An Ode to the Loss of a ToothA Poem by Dan BullockA story developed from my mind...as they always appear to with inanimate objects, this was what came through, ha! It's fun, go play.“This space has grown between us!” Said one tooth to another “The man with the face mask, he stole our pained brother!” He had ripped him from the nerve centre Out into the open “I do wonder” Wisdom whispered wisely “I wonder how he’s coping” “He could have been the tooth, to rule all the others. But he’s been taken from existence...our pained brother.” “What can we do, with the gap he’s left in our semi-circle?” One thought that maybe he’d popped his head down, just ‘like a turtle’ “No! No!” cried Wisdom “Don’t be so absurd.” “I saw his face fly away...he looked quite perturbed.” And so the other teeth, all gathered round with questions. (To try and find the answer and avoid silly suggestions.) “We must be calm, we must think” snapped Wisdom “We must stop all this fuss.” “We should have known! He must have flown! Off with the circus!” They knew that with his enamel, it’s not hard to travel and they all bet that he’d get far. So the tale ends with absent friends, never far from the heart. I’ll look after them and never lose one again Til death do us part! © 2009 Dan BullockReviews
