Watching & Regarding Change...A Poem by Dan BullockA playful/serious thought process on where I feel the World is some days.
The environment or the state of the kids today But I notice the changes In how our minds have strayed From working in the kitchens And all the things we throw away I threw away potatoes, carrots and leek I threw out cream; as it was past its peak I binned a load of bread rolls that had done nothing wrong I chucked away a jug of milk that had just been sat there too long I’m not one for rambling on about the sea levels Lying politicians, privacy laws and bank rates But I can see the distance growing That’s slowly directing our fate And I’ve noticed the newspapers Warning us to change before it’s too late I recycle my plastics, my cardboard and my cans I’ve grown a beard and shouted obscenities, to prove I’m a man I have fought for rites in my local University group And kept free range chickens (so they are not locked up in a coup) But all this seems insignificant to the life I’m supposed to lead I’m told to prove my worth Even if it means I bleed So how are we supposed to balance? The needy and what we need When everyone around us Just demands that we succeed
