Watching & Regarding Change...

Watching & Regarding Change...

A Poem by Dan Bullock
"

A playful/serious thought process on where I feel the World is some days.

"

I’m not one for warbling on about the future,

The environment or the state of the kids today

But I notice the changes

In how our minds have strayed

From working in the kitchens

And all the things we throw away

I threw away potatoes, carrots and leek

I threw out cream; as it was past its peak

I binned a load of bread rolls that had done nothing wrong

I chucked away a jug of milk that had just been sat there too long

I’m not one for rambling on about the sea levels

Lying politicians, privacy laws and bank rates

But I can see the distance growing

That’s slowly directing our fate

And I’ve noticed the newspapers

Warning us to change before it’s too late

I recycle my plastics, my cardboard and my cans

I’ve grown a beard and shouted obscenities, to prove I’m a man

I have fought for rites in my local University group

And kept free range chickens (so they are not locked up in a coup)

But all this seems insignificant to the life I’m supposed to lead

I’m told to prove my worth

Even if it means I bleed

So how are we supposed to balance?

The needy and what we need

When everyone around us

Just demands that we succeed

I like the way that you wrote this. As if it isn't really a big deal. I agree. I think that the societys mind has gone insane and now focusing on education and succeeding and raising a family are the most important aspects of a life. And along the way of doing that we overlook and misuse so many natural wonders and beautiful things in the world.

im not sure if i interpreted this right. but i did enjoy reading it either way. it made me think.

I love the meaning, as well as the word-use. One thing that really caught my attention was the 2nd stanza and I felt somewhat envious that you could find four different ways to smoothly say you got rid of this and that. I also liked how personalized it was, like how one could read it like it was straight from your head. Great job, I enjoyed reading this very much!

This is great! Thank you for sending it my way.
It reads beautifully. It is not rushed and the words have a calm thoughtfulness to them.
I love the rhyme structure too. Especially in stanzas 1, 3 and 5.
Great writing! Into my favourites!
