AS LIFE HAPPENS

When dad punched me and

said I was ugly and stupid

as that little girl, I lost!

 

When my mom didn’t protect

me and joined in with the cruelty,

I lost!

 

When my uncle came into

my room and frightened

me as a little girl, I lost!

 

When my boyfriend blackened my eyes

and fractured my cheekbone,

I lost!

 

When my beloved dog,

Rocky died in my arms,

I lost!

 

When a car struck me

and I suffered life altering

injuries, I lost!

 

When I received the call,

your mother is dead,

I lost!

 

When I watched my loyal and

adorable puppy to succumb

to cancer, I lost!

 

When I realize there isn’t anymore

fight left in me, I say to you

One last time, I lost!
