Looking Back on Heartless Acts

Looking Back on Heartless Acts

A Poem by Dana Marie

Revenge is the coldest act a dead man can commit
It seeps into the soul like a dagger in the back
Slowly but surely killing its host with cruel realization
Though at first it may seem indeterminate
Over time it will leave its deep track
Slowly misdirecting all the target’s navigation

There is no distinction between now and then
No true line that can define hell from heaven
When one man’s trash is another man’s treasure
What can be worth anything at all?
Some love wallowing in pain
Some love sinking into pleasure
In the end we all answer to a different call

Yet we are all humans
One race of inequality
But freedom can only ring in a blind and deaf world
Where no one will hear that sweet bell
No true line to define heaven and hell
No one really knows where they are going
