Penny

Penny

A Poem by Dana Marie

We'd sneak up to the train tracks with a couple coins in hands

lay them on the rails and wait, other hands in hands

can you see how flat I've become in my eyes

the single layer of my own crushing demise

but the beautiful smooth and serene surface

will never be enough when a penny's worthless
