Not Where I Expected

Not Where I Expected

A Poem by Liam

I opened a box tonight that had become rusty and faded,
This box that I thought I had hidden deep but I found it again nonetheless.
As it opened, my secret Pandora like emotions overtook my eyes,
Spreading salt water down my cheeks then wiped away with a sleeve.
My sound wall being a turned back and a half listening ear,
They caught the important half and ignored the sobs I between incoherent sentences.
I haven't cried a river like that in a long time,
But I go about making little streams every once in a while.
Being emotional and caring are weaknesses that I, sometimes, wish would find a new home,
A new person to befriend and then torture.
My dog companion sprawled out in front of me half asleep,
She moves only her head onto my lap for my comfort.
My, how I love this world even though I feel like it's so fucked up,
My thoughts criss cross between each other occasionally playing leap frog.
The tears have dried up now and I've taken comfort in my rebuilt wall,
It's foundation sturdy enough to hold me in for a little while.
