Me

Me

A Poem by Liam

A fallen eyelash rests on your cheek,
A world lays on your shoulders.
You drag the thoughts and opinions of others around,
Like your feet.
Time, you insist,
Has never really mattered anyway.
You have no problem with looking at life through unreflective windows,
The eyes don't hold back secrets like the legends say.
They glaze over and keep them out,
Tears rip their way through anyway.
Private, you are,
Keeping your thoughts inward.
Silence keeps them locked away,
All of your little secrets kept at bay.
You swear allegiance to nothing but keep your gaze high,
Always watching and waiting for someone to intervene.
Jokes and quips roll off your tongue,
It's so much easier to crack a joke than tell the truth.
You have locked doors, you have half-truths,
No one can dig deep enough to find the bottom.
But, you insist on writing these words to ease your mind,
You write to sleep.
God knows the things that keep the troubled awake,
The thoughts that shout at you while others sleep.
...Just being silent brings on waves of nightmares,
The harsh reality that twists into something more frightening.
And. They. Wonder. Why. You. Can't. Sleep.
And. They. Why. You. Wont. Open. Up.
The truth of it all is,
Why talk when the dead don't sleep?
