(20 minutes earlier; Eastern San Diego California. )
"Mia you didn't go up to say hi to Carol?" Liz asks glancing over at Mina then back towards the road.
"Her house still gives me chills. Almost feels like someone's watching." She says glancing over at Liz. "I don't necessarily feel comfortable there."
"Well there's nothing to worry about, you know that. You were there when she had the house cleansed" she says looking back over towards Mia.
The car go silent for a while. Liz sighs and looks back towards the road occasionally glancing at a sign as they drive along the interstate.
"Guess I better call Carol, let her know were almost into town." She says as she shifts her weight a bit in her seat.
She reaches into her coat pocket and takes out her cell, unlocking the screen and dialing Carols number. The phone rings a few time before Carol answers, the TV filling the sound in the background before slowly fading.
"Hey Carol, just wanted to let you know we're almost there" Liz says as she glances over at Mina then back towards the road.
"Okay, you two be safe there's was a basketball game that way that had just ended. Lots of drinkers probably on the road to restock for halftime." She says hearing a loud horn. " what was that?"
"Oh some guy almost hit us." Liz's says, sighing lightly. "You weren't kidding though."
She laughs a bit, glancing up in the rear view mirror. The tail lights of the passing car fading behind them as they drive down the interstate.
"How are James and Casey holding up so far?"
"They're fine" Carol says as she glances over at me and Casey. "James is watching the sun set and I think Case fell asleep on him."
"So, the usual afternoon?" Liz asks.
"Pretty much" Carol says laughing a bit
"I guess I'll let you go, I'll talk to you later sis"
They exchange goodbye's and they both hang up. Liz sets her cell in the cup holder and glances over at Mina then back at the road driving quietly before breaking the silence.
"Nervous about working out of town?"
"No, just feel like we might be making a mistake by taking up the offer of coming out here for the week." Mina says as she glances over at Liz.
"What do you mean?" Liz asks, confused a bit.
"It just feels like something bad is about to happen. It could just be me though" She says, look back out the window.
"It'll be fine sweetheart. We'll get to San Diego safely, get this job done this week and be back in the comfort of our home. All in a matter of time" Liz says as she rests her hand on top of Mina's gently. "Nothing bad is going to happen, I promise".
"God I hope you're right" Mina says lightly to herself before leaning against the window.
"You know, I think you're afraid" Liz says smiling brightly as she merges onto the exit ramp and stops at the light before glancing over Mina.
"Me?" She says shooting up and looking over at Liz. "Afraid of what?" She asks cocking an eyebrow.
"You're afraid of working out of town" Liz says laughing as she glances at Mina then back at the road.
"I'm not afraid of working out of town."
"Oh come on, I can read you like a book" Liz says continuing to laugh as she pulls away from the light as it turns green. "You are definitely afraid"
"I am not!" Mina say laughing a bit a she shifts a bit in her seat.
"Whatever you say" Liz says pausing for a brief moment. "Scardy cat." She says laughing as Mina scoffs at her and glances back out the window.
The car goes silent for a couple a minutes as the continue down the main road, the traffic beginning to pick up as they enter the downtown area.
"Something on your mind?" Liz asks as she glances over at Mina.
"It's just not the same you know?" Mina says softly as she looks over.
"What do you mean?" Liz asks as she glances at the road then back over at her.
"I mean with dad being out of town for business, everything just seems kinda...off."
"Yeah" Liz says lightly looking back at the road in front of them as she comes to a stop at a light. "It does kind of offset the vibe of everything. On the bright side though, its not much longer until we're back under one roof."
"That's true" Mina says smiling softly.
"See so there's nothing to worry about. We're going to be fine and, we have plenty to look forward too." She says as she pulls away from the light.
A horn sounds as they cross the intersection before a large suv slams into the side of the car, pushing it into the next lane and flipping it over. Their car continues to slide as its pushed by the suv before slamming into the corner of large concrete building. The loud screams of bystanders being heard loudly as the faint sound of sirens fill their calls of fear as smoke begins to fill the air. The driver of the suv looks up from the steering wheel smirking as he shifts into reverse and pulls away slowly. Admiring his work as he see's both Mina and Liz unconscious in the overturned car before shifting into drive and pulling away quickly, disappearing into the traffic.
