A Chapter by Suppressed Minds

1
"James make sure Casey has her nightgown for me!" I could hear my sister Mina call from her room as she was getting ready to head to work with my mother.
"Alright" I yell back to her as I head into the living room. I sit down on the sofa and slide Casey's backpack in front of me, a pink book bag with the hello kitty logo on the front of it, and unzip the front pouch, shifting through the neatly folded clothes.
"It's in here" I yell to her, zipping the pouch back up.
"Mom why are we going to aunt Carol's again?" I ask her as Casey looks between us as we talk.
"Mina and I have to work out of town this week so, you and Casey are going to be staying there till we get back."
"How come we can't just stay here?" I ask, cocking an eyebrow at her. "I could look after Case while you both are away."
"I know but, I'd feel better knowing you both were looked after." She says here voice a bit soft as her mind begins to wonder.
"Alright, but I'm not rubbing her feet" I say jokingly, seeing mom smile a bit at my comment. Casey giggles and slides off the sofa as she sees Mina coming downstairs, trying quickly to walk past me as I stick my arm out in front of her and pull her towards me.
"Where are you going missy?" I say playfully chuckling a bit. She laughs as she pulls away and runs over to Mina, hiding behind her legs as she stops in the threshold. I stick my tongue out at her, hearing her giggle.
"You guise ready?" Mina asks smiling a bit.
"Yep just waiting on you, slow poke"
"I had to do my makeup. Takes a minute to make myself look good for the day." She say as she picks up Casey.
"Sis you don't need makeup to look good. Even mom's said so." I say as I stand up, grabbing both mine and Casey's backpack and slinging them both around my shoulder.
"Says the lone shadow wolf, who refuses to cut his hair no matter how much people tell him how nice he looks with it short."
"What's that supposed to mean?" I ask chuckling a bit.
"It means, your not gonna find a nice girl till you cut your hair" mom says as she stands up, grabbing her keys off the table as she makes her way to the door.
"I already have a nice girl though" I say as I follow her out of the room.
"Maria doesn't count Jay" Mina says. "That girl isn't gonna keep you happy."
"What are you saying?" I ask as we all walk outside and head to the car.
"In other words, either something's gonna happen outside your relationship that forces you both to break up or she's gonna end up cheating on you or vise versa"
"It's not gonna happen but, sure we'll go with that if it gets you to stop messing with me" I say annoyed a bit as I help Casey into her car seat and get into the car.
"I'm just saying Jay, it could happen" Mina says as she slides in the front, passenger seat. "Like you said it might not happen but, again there's always that chance."
"I said it wouldn't happen. Huge difference from what you're quoting back."
"Oh, would you both stop? It's to early for bickering." We hear mom say as she slides into the driver's seat"
"She started it" I mumble hearing Casey giggle at my comment.
She starts the car and backs out the driveway, slowly pulling out onto the road. The gate closes slowly as we head down the road and pull onto the highway, heading straight out of town and right for phoenix. The trip seeming to last for days as we drive down the open road. We drive in silence the entire way there, the faint sound if the radio echoing through the car as I stare out the window, running through my thoughts. I glace back at Casey, who has now fallen asleep, her dark brown hair covering her eyes as she sleeps peacefully. I smile and look back out the window, watching the scene slowly change as we draw closer to the city.
"Something on your mind Jay?" Mina asks, breaking the silence.
"No" I say, continuing to stare out the window. "Just relaxed for a change."
"Hear you there" she says laughing a bit.
I shift in my seat and lean against the door, my head resting on the window slightly as I look up at the clouds.
"Have you ever gone some where, even when you been there before countless time, that's out of state and you get like this feeling.."
"What type of feeling?" Mina asks now intrigued.
"Like, everything around you has come to a stop and for some reason you just feel like.." I pause for a moment and sigh lightly, now looking towards her. "you're home" both me and Mina say at the exact same time.
"Yeah" she says lightly, her voice faint as she begins to lose herself in her thoughts. The car goes quiet again, the sound of the radio and traffic taking over as we pull onto the exit ramp and enter the city.

I enjoy chapters that consist of a single conversation. I noticed a few grammar issues in the story though, like when he says guise instead of guys.

I also couldn't help but notice you changed tense from past to present right after the first line.

Other than these things, I'd say it's really great.
