Embrace The Sun

Embrace The Sun

A Poem by Dakotah Bledsoe

Woke up this mornin'
pulled the covers from over my head
instead of sleeping in
I embraced the sun instead.
I'm forgiving the past but
forgetting is hopeless.
I'll just keep my focus
on the greater things in life
like raising a child or maybe
even a wife.
we can play all night
underneath the cloud of happiness
in the midst
of the pillow fight.
but that's old,
heard it before but what I didn't know
is I have been known
to be affectionate.
but its my life to live
its my love to give.
tired of feeling regret
living check to check
living in the past will
only intercept my intellect.
so just breathe
smile
listen and respect
all of your dreams
if you just believe
then it's not too hard to see
this life was made for you and me.
and there's no place, no state
I would rather be
sitting underneath
 the family tree.

Don't let your day pass by
listen to your dreams
it'll be alright
believing gets hard
what it has to take
is to forget all our mistakes
to embrace the day

embrace the day
