To my friend in heavenA Poem by Dajanay MonroeA few months back I lost a best friend, a sister, a true friend to a car accident. She was 19 years old. This is for her.
Grief kicks in when I think of how you died
Sudden with not one chance to say goodbye Closing your eyes while I was opening mine How is it fair that I live and you die? 19 years old with a plan to be great You were coming to ISU & needed a roommate Dreams, aspirations, hopes filled your mind But eternal life with God you decided to sign How is it fair that I live and your life decline? I feel selfish when I began to cry Head raised to the sky and began to ask why Why did you have to go so far away How is it fair that you leave and I get to stay? I don’t think we’re too far apart When I think of you I know you’re in my heart When tomorrow starts without you again Just know I’ll always remember you my friend How is any of this fair? I just can’t win -Dajanay Monroe © 2021 Dajanay MonroeAuthor's Note
