Promise Me This

My first serious attempt at a poem. It's somewhat of a story too... Description: A jealous-type girl is suspisious of her aloof boyfriend.

Promise Me This

 

Promise me you won't leave me

Promise me you won't lie

Promise me you won't decieve me

Promise me you won't make me cry.

 

Promise me you won't tell anyone

Promise me you won't say anything

Promise me this is secret

Promise me that what they say

isn't true.

 

I know it sounds like too much

I know it might be rough

But if you truly love me (and such)

You can do all that stuff.

 

You love me, don't you?

You aren't faking, are you?

Can't you look me in the eye and say,

"I love you"?

 

Why do they stare at us?

Why do they frown?

Surely, it isn't me, is it?

But how do I know it isn't you?

 

Time passed.

Words flew.

Things happened.

"It's true?"

 

I thought you promised me.

I thought you already knew.

The things that occur between us

Stay between me and you.

It's been three months since then.

Nobody remembers you.

Now do you see what happens

When promises aren't true?
