ThanksA Poem by Jenny-Jen-JenThe true meaning of ThanksgivingThanks
A forgotten meaning to this day, The ability to give thanks. Here we are, gathering together -- Smiling, vacantly, with small talk that matters, not. In a house on a hill, With beautiful views and space to run. Gardens, tree-swings, and laughter. Not a true worry in the world. We’ve got everything we’ll ever need -- But still we want more. Greed overcomes us, And we soon forget that we’re blessed. We ignore our neighbors, The ones struggling on the streets, And the ones who’ve never had a home. We’d rather focus on our desires. The toy we’ve been denied -- The trip we don’t need. What a shame, That the ability has been lost. A meaning forgotten -- a simple thanks. © 2011 Jenny-Jen-JenAuthor's Note
