...breath in...breath out...

...breath in...breath out...

A Poem by Phillip Francis

Paralyzed, the glow of my computer screen illuminates my face, pins and needles radiate through my extremities, hot flashes consuming breath, heart rapidly pumps blood to alleviate, sweat permeates on the brow. I am frozen.

Constraint

 ...breath in...breath out...

desperately seeking my formal relationship, mind and body, newly severed, drifting further a part

...breath in ...breath out...

voices echo in the background, muffled by the shouting in my brain,

you're a loser,

you're going crazy,

you'll never be the same,

pleading to God, any God that will answer the calls of my distress to release me of this anguish

 ...breath in...breath out....

Constraint.

...breath in...breath out...

Focus.

...breath in...breath out...

reality slowly slipping away, heart on the verge of implosion, my hands begin to shake

...breath in...breath out...

soul escaping, this is it, there is not time for good-byes, this is where you lay

...breath in...breath out...

Focus.

...breath in...breath out... ...breath in...breath out...

Smile! The worst has past, mindful this will not last.

A single moment, your life was fleeting, seconds later consciousness meeting.

...breath in...breath out... ...breath in...breath out...

A very thought provoking piece to make one consider just how many times in our lives that death has come calling for us, and we never had a clue, nor gave it a thought ... But every now and then we are made to realize our constant and ever present mortality within this shell called a human body ...

I love how you have the reader in the palm of your hand. I can almost feel myself breathing in and out with you. Very well done.
