Spectator of HumanityA Poem by Phillip FrancisI've witnessed the grotesque face of the human spirit, walked
the path of vagrants, winos, and illicit cranks, vomiting in the alleyways
and dumpsters making excuses and telling lies. I've watched corruption torment the beliefs of good men, cheated of their aspirations, feeding on broken promises, spending their lives
shackled, subdued by evil and gagged by fear. I've seen the system destroy generations by impregnating civilization
with conflict, as the masses aimlessly wander, distracted by misconceptions,
while power stokes inflated ego, bleeding the underprivileged, continuously
stirring the pot. I've found compassion and understanding hiding in the depths
of the underground, terrified, only to overcome the odds to overthrow the plight of the destitute, shining light through the darkness. I've looked in the eyes of evil men, shrouded in ego, wearing
a veil of deceit, providing them with just enough rope to commit verbal suicide; a bystander to self destruction left alone to collect the pieces of shame that cover the walls. I've viewed love at its core, in the eyes of a mother's sleepless
night , the father prior to losing his son, the brother's defensive glare and
the lover's admiring stare. I can attest to both heaven and hell on earth and humbled to know there is no right or wrong answers, there is simply life. © 2016 Phillip FrancisReviews
