A Stumble, A Change

A Stumble, A Change

A Poem by Ben Taylor

A toe into the frigid
Water,
A half step into a room crowded with
Strangers--
I must fall through the thinly iced stagnation
Of my lake of denial
And realize that I am lost,
Crowded by unknowns
In this life that still
Masquerades as my own,
But is undoubtedly
Different.

Brilliant Ben. Beautiful choice of words, to me signifying the changes from teenage to young adulthood. Your metaphors are most apt as well.

Feelings, seemingly without cause; a nameless alienation--common afflictions of the teen years. For, after all, change is indeed happening; emotional, as well as physical.
So-called "grown-ups" often like to tell the young that things will seem much clearer when they become adults. They lie.
A gem of obscurity, young Ben of the MO clan.
