Blistered from the Heat of Introspection

Blistered from the Heat of Introspection

A Poem by Ben Taylor
"

Prompt: Week One (Prompts an Reviews Group)

"
There was once a chance
I didn't take.
The road bleeding with ebullience,
I chose to forgo,
Instead, suturing my rebellious heart
Into my chest with strands
Of reluctance.
"Please say something.."
I am lost for words,
My dear.
But not just for words;
You overestimate me when you
Assume my path is predetermined.
Yes--
I am lost.
The path I took with a semblance
Of compliance
Has led me away from the life
I once imagined.
Did I really miss my chance?
"Yes."
My copacetic conceptions for an eventuality
Have been reduced to
Darkness.
The road ramified so many years ago,
I can hardly recall
The moment my feet
Led me underground.
But now,
The subterranean walls
Of my my ubiquitous sorrow
Are enclosing with claustrophobic
Surety.
The option to repent,
To turn back,
Was exhausted many thoughts ago;
I suck the dirt from beneath my nails,
And attempt to reminisce.

This is a wonderful poem for the prompt! Your imagery is fantastic and the flow is as natural as breathing. I love the conversational aspect of this.

Wow! This is intense! Well crafted, excellent use of the language and evokes internal emotions of regret and remorse..... Amazing Ben The last two lines nail the emotional aspects....a simple gesture stating soo much. I swear you must have lived a few life times already :)

Not going to be difficult to be slightly more coherent than your previous reviewer.
You've met the challenge, Ben--and then some.
An excellent, intriguing piece
