Throb Of DistanceA Poem by Ben TaylorThese impossibly thin wires Of nostalgia That bind us one to Another, At the simplest note of Remembered song Or frankly uttered phrase Will shiver with regret: A steady throb of longing, Beating as if It were a fist of denial On the memory-bloodied doors Of the irretrievable past. At the slightest provocation, These strands of the unforgettable Constrict within my chest, Painfully accentuating the division Of that which has passed And that which will never again Come to pass.
