Lost
A Poem by
Ben Taylor
The water's
Vengeful ubiquity
Surrounds the
Hapless prisoner as she
Cowers in her
Polished cell.
Through tear
Smeared "i"s,
She observes the
Rancor of the
Petulant spray
As it punishes her
For her wandering
Nonchalance,
Her aimless
Indifference.
The roiling maw
Of foam and salt
Ingests
and
Rejects
Her in an eternal
Cycle
Of retribution.
As she presses her skin,
Wrinkled from the
Memory
Of a life long
Forgotten,
Against the transparency
Of her
Confinement,
A sibilant sigh
Escapes her.
Under the vindictive
Eye of the
Almighty depths,
Her prison
Gently shatters;
She is softly
Consumed
By the remorseful
Tears
Of the many
Despondent messengers
That went
Before her.

A description of a message in a bottle :D

Ben this is wonderful. Giving the message life and feeling. Tribulations to suffer through and to finally be destroyed by. Puts me very much in mind of a genie in a bottle tossed into oblivion and lost forever. Most excellent use of words and imagery. This is another one of yours that is a favorite :)

Nicely written. Very intriguing and interesting. I liked how the words flowed together. "Gently shatters; she is softly consumed." Love it.

"The roiling maw of foam and salt"... brilliant.

You seem to delight in microscoping the curious, as well as the most-overlooked mundane. Not many modern poets would have chosen this as a subject: the demise of a message in a bottle; a dramatic demise, at that.
Nothing wrong with being a maverick--especially, when you produce product like this.
Very fine work, Ben.

Perhaps a message in a bottle, or perhaps a poem about death?
"Despondent messengers
That went
Before her."
Nice work, but not simple as you suggest...
