Drift Apart

Drift Apart

A Poem by Ben Taylor

I am viewing a sliver of silver moon,
vast expanses of shadow indistinguishable against a
night sky black as old blood.
I have watched the full moon wane to a gibbous,
pause,
then be slowly shaved down towards nothingness.
I remember the laughing face, fully lit.
I thought I could still see that smile,
even as the halfway point was eclipsed.
But now I realize I have no idea
what those inky plains hold.
Talk and talk and talk,
I won't believe it if there's nothing there
to see --
and the new moon
is terribly close tonight.

Strange how we watch changes in others and feel ourselves moving away, seperating and no longer seeing the shine of new love. The rose tinted specs burried deep in the drawer in the attic of our memories. The allegory is nicely presented.
