Burning Bush

Burning Bush

A Poem by Chris Zahar
"

About a soldier who, shell-shocked, jaded, and gasping his last dying breaths, seeks revenge not only on the Middle Easterner who've shot at him day in and day out, but on the administration that sent him.

"

Gasping for air and heroism,

how right I was when I said,

the right was wrong,

and my rights were wronged,

when I signed them over to you.

You supported the nation, but not the people.

You supported the mission but not me.

Burning Bush,

over the bridge.

Tell me where Jesus,

said “save only the rich”.

Gasoline,

Gasoline,

Oil,

Oil,

Leave not a drop left.

Let not a drop spoil.

Face down in an oil field,

taking life’s last gasps,

I’ll set it all on fire,

watch your dreams burn at last.

The trolls you’ve ignored,

who’ve been Laden with guilt,

are wounded by machines of war,

that never should’ve been built.

Healthcare,

who cares???

To Hell with all your cares.

We fight ‘em there,

or we fight ‘em here,

RIGHT???

One disappointed father,

one eager to please son

and a war that, no matter what, has to be won,

because, um…………………….

Burning Bush,

over the rivers,

where they hung my brothers’ bodies,

without a shiver,

without a weep,

with only calls for blood and gnashing of teeth.

Let this whole land burn, and everyone in it;

Holy man,

Hijacker,

W***e,

And sinner.

And when the people scream to the archangel, Michael

“More Clinton!”

“More Biden,”

“More Obama, Osama, anyone but you!!!”

Sell them four more years,

For more fears,

And you’ll never let a drop spoil. . .

 . . . because I’ve burned it all.

Very strong message and one that has alot of power in words........

These young men still fighting, still dying, while Bush in his madness continues to hold on to
great power.................its disgusting...........really strong read.

This was great made me think of a movie preview I saw with Ryan Phillipan he has just returned from Iraq and they want to send him back even though his tour is up and he dealing with not wanting to go back with everyone around telling he should and has to. I support out troops that are over there and that are here. I just don't and will never support the war they fight. But that is not their choice once again decided by the power to be. I think he should send his daughters over there to fight if he so eager to fight. You back in the old days of kings and stuff if they were at war with someone else the king would send his sons to fight along with his men. I think that would be a great think for him to do. Oh I will stop before I go off on a rant of sorts.

I love the piece and the visual imagery of it was perfect. You always write with such passion. I find that refreshing to see and read.

Well Done!!!!

This is about as close as I'll ever get to writing a political piece. I can't stand politics, nor the smug, self-righteous jerk-offs who argue for them on either side of the spectrum. One more of these and I fear I'll start turning into Sean Penn (cold shudder).
