A Friend From The Past

A Friend From The Past

A Poem by Cynthia Man
"

Bye bye... my friend, but then... why?

"

The same face, the same features

But then there's no warmth in your gaze,

Or am I wrong,  we’re only strangers

Who keep passing each other by?

It’s your heart I don’t feel familiar with

Where’s the friend I used to know?

Why have you changed so much?

Come back to me, the soul mate of mine

I don’t need fame and money of yours,

Only want your love and comforting words

And the friendship between,

That’s what I treasure within

This familiarity, yet the huge distance,

So… who are you?

So… Where are you?

My best friend in the past?

Where is the person I used to know?

Why can’t I feel it in the brand new you

Did you lock yourself within?

Will you please come back as my friend?

Or did you choose to erase me

From your book of history,

By cutting the bond between us?

Why did you draw such distance from me?

A Goodbye to my best friend..... She changes... I no longer know her, and there's no turning back.... And it makes me so sad and at the same time meeting some kind of writers block....

Anyways, I'll try to write something longer after this one... :)

I can relate to this. My best friend completely changed and went in search for popularity and bitchiness. We never really talk anymore. Anyways that was a few years ago... I know the pain. I actually wrote a song when it happened..

That was emotional and from the heart. people change but you have to move on and live on your life. You find new friends. But its easier said than done...

So sad when someone we are close to drifts apart from us. Friendships are so important and to lose one, is sad. I liked this and the length, you did a great job at describing your frustration and sorrow over the changes in your friend. Well written.

Oh my goodness! I really enjoyed reading this poem if yours. I'm glad that I read it, too. I actually can relate a lot to this poem, Cynthia. My ex-best friend and I were really close and we were ultimately inseparable. But now we can get maybe one or two words across each other a day. I always ask myself what happened?! But the answer is, with time people sadly change. I haven't changed much, but she did for sure. She used to be so innocent, but now she's only trouble. I'm so glad that you shared a poem that I've been trying to pen point about my past friendship! Wonderfully written, girl! :)

You're very welcome, :) and you're so right about that too.
As life changes so do friends. The person we knew last year is gone. The person they knew last year is gone. It is very sad. But that is the way of the world.

Thanks :) And I agree, people change fast... That's sad, but true :))
well expressed and nicely penned...friends are sometimes strained by stress or peer pressure . others may influence their feeling toward you. after living as long as i have you will come to know how fickle and how real friendship can be...it all depends on how strong the bonds were to begin with and upon how willing you are to swallow some of your personal pride...great write!

Understandably melancholy and painful.
Your sentiments are very well expressed, Cynthia; uncomfortable to experience.
But then, who knows what the future may hold? When your friend fully realizes she's lost something precious, too, she may eventually return to reclaim that something.
Either way, you must proceed with living--and writing.
