Across the Blue

for a departing loved one...

A thousand hugs,
A billion kisses.
A farewell song,
And all the best wishes.

Here today, gone tomorrow,
I'm happy to say there's no sorrow.
Though another second I wish I could borrow,
Before you fly off like the sparrow.

So long I have been dreading this day,
wish it were later in July or May.
In my mind I badly want you to stay.
But I know our love will never decay.

So I lay in my bed, this pen in my hand.
I know for sure the test of time we'll stand.
Though you may be in a different land,
Our hearts will beat as one, like a marching band,
And we will soldier on till our happy end.

I know you are nervous, yes I am too,
But I know you'll always be my boo,
My perfect match, like that of a shoe,
Separating the two would simply not do.

I could say a hundred words,
Make infinite promises,
Even profess my undying love.
But as I say farewell, I just have this to say...

Out of sight is not out of mind.
Distance truly does make the heart grow fonder,
And most importantly,
I LOVE YOU.

Speaking of that line, it's one of my favorites, and it's in my favorite stanza.
I love this piece, it's to sweet and true. I like the word choice and the flow of it.
