Dead Bird on the Gates of Heaven

By Tony Quintana

When walking home one day

I spotted on the grungy dirty

Food and trash stained floor

The Carcass of a bird

Beaten and bloody and broken

Lying at an odd angle

So you could tell it wasn't sleeping

The bird then glanced at me

With absent eyes

And said the journey was worth it

Then went away

I have always hated birdsongs

Their harsh sound pushing

And tearing through the

Calm and clear mornings

But it was sad to hear

The bird squawk and shriek

While burning in hell.
