Man in the Mirror

Man in the Mirror

A Poem by Vasseli

Man in the Mirror

When you gaze at the mirror, what do you see?

Someone I barely know, looking back at me

They look familiar this much is true

He moves like I do, right on cue

I once knew myself, deep inside

That person is gone, he’s long since died

My course was so clear, when I was young

But those dreams have passed, their songs unsung

Ambition was my friend, but now forsakes me

All my hopes, awash in the sea

That endless expanse, that howling abyss

Now despair rules, I can hear it hiss

Life seems pointless, no longer free

Why can’t I see what others see?

Friends and family I let down

Disappointed, I’ve lost my crown

There is a score that I must settle

The last true test of my mettle

One last goodbye before I leave

I beg you please, do not grieve

I love you all, do not forget

But I cannot live with this regret.
