The Darkness Within

A poem about my battle with depression

You ask me “Why, why do you cry?”

In truth I don’t know, it’s not a lie

Surrounded by sadness not knowing what to do

It feels like the Darkness is swallowing you

Darkness borne from deep inside

There from birth, it has not died

Darkness comes, but without sin

Darkness eats you from within

I want to flee, to run far from here

I want to escape, to disappear

But you can’t run, there’s nowhere to hide

Only one way out, one thing to decide

I won’t live another day, won’t see another dawn

I was me, but now he’s gone.

Wow. this is an amazing poem. I liked that it rhymed and kept a steady pattern. It flowed incredibly and the idea was wonderful. I like how you describe darkness. "It feels like darkness is swallowing you." Great line, great poem.
