Once We Flew

Once We Flew

A Poem by Curtis Shannon
"

Do you think we'll ever fly again?

"
it was exhilarating--
the rush of feelings
of being so high
up high above the clouds

not a care in the world
save for the sad hint
to our sparkling smiles . . .
we knew we'd have to come down

and sooner than it began
it was over and
my feet are on mundane ground
no wind ripples through my hair

and you are
never to fly again
in distant lands
you dream

you dream of things
that I don't know
but can I hope?
that you're dreaming of me?

do you remember
what it was like to fly?
side-by-side with me
on a magic door

because I can't forget
and I want to fly
once more to the atmosphere
until I can't feel my face

it was worth it
to fly never again
if it meant that I
could fly once with you

The longing here is so powerful. That last stanza heart breaking.

i can relate to this...but i don't think she ever dreams of me...we were carefree back then, and didn't think much, or enough about future and what would happen, eventually.

that eventuality is that our dreams went in different directions.
