How You KnowA Poem by Alice MillerAn older piece to pass the time while I wait for inspiration to strike.
Darling,
I know it's hard to tell if I love you. Hard to tell if "darling" is saved just for you, Or given carelessly to all those who can make me laugh. You know I love everything and everyone with a firecracker's brightness, Loudly as clattering chimes and victory cries, With a mad passion most others reserve For falling in love, once and forevermore. Rest assured, darling, That I love you, too, in those wild ways. But when the clamor settles- When I've run out of things to say Or when nothing needs to be said- It's always you that I wish to share my silence with. Please keep my gentle love. My sighs, my secrets, my hand in yours. It isn't so sensational as the fierce and dazzling love I give away, But it is the only love that I keep The very closest to my heart- And it is yours alone. © 2022 Alice MillerAuthor's Note
