The Dark Horses

The Dark Horses

A Poem by Ranjan Biswas

Lovely but Vicious,

Dark but gorgeous,

Are they really

The horses

Who come in the darkness?

The horses

With the human heads?

Or the horses with

Wings like angels?

I don’t really know.

But when they come

Come like a tornado,

Blowing sands behind,

Making the wind fanatical

With the neighs

Of those valiant horses.

My soul trembles

With the imagination

Of the ferocity

Of upcoming moment,

But still I must admit

I remain always

Fervent for the vision

Of those dark horses’

Flight in the dusk

They come in my dream

Make me sweat with

Excitement and fierce

But I must admit

I keenly wait for them

For days months and years.

I hate them

But I love them too!

You might look at Bayard Taylor's Bedouin Song . . . your words remind me of his

ROM the Desert I come to thee
On a stallion shod with fire;
And the winds are left behind
In the speed of my desire.
Under thy window I stand,
And the midnight hears my cry:
I love thee, I love but thee,
With a love that shall not die
Till the sun grows cold,
And the stars are old,
And the leaves of the Judgment Book Unfold!
