However, he denied any wrongdoing by himself or the Popular Party in relation to the scandal. Mr. Rajoy, who has governed with an absolute majority since December 2011, said he was appearing before the special session of parliament to "refute the lies, manipulations and malicious insinuations encouraged by certain political leaders".
