This wonderland: Snow

This wonderland: Snow

A Story by Stark

'Bye.'
He waves farewell to his home, the place he grew up and had hoped to grow old in. His parents had decided that they would move to a different country around a few months ago. Canada, at that. He liked this decision, but that didn't mean that he would enjoy leaving home. It was only human nature to feel this way. Rin, 20, and his little sister Anna, 15, kiss their dog goodbye.

'See you soon, good girl.'
The flight was estimated to take around 12 hours. What a drag, Rin thought. He kisses his grandparents goodbye at the airport, with tears of both joy and a slight hint of sadness falling down their cheeks.

The moment the plane took off, he dozes off, his consciousness enveloped in the excitement and wonder of what was going to be an entirely new world.

They arrive at Vancouver International Airport at around 5 am, and they had to wait for 2 more hours for their next flight to their final destination, Calgary. It was supposedly blisteringly cold there, so they prepare their winter wear.

Finally, after about an hour of flying in turbulent weather, and Rin throwing up once inside the flight, they land. It was around 10 am when he first felt the cold gust of wind that Calgary was known for. He steps outside into the car of their waiting friend, ready to take them to what was to be their house.

He was still a bit dizzy then, with the nearly 15 hour flight and not to mention him vomiting just a few moments ago. He stared outside the window of the fast moving car, and he sees something on the ground beside them. It was white, and resembled that of crushed ice. He asks their driver, who was also his unrelated 'uncle' what it was.

'Snow.'
'Ah, so this was what we saw in all those movies and cartoons. Amazing', he thought.

The car comes to halt in front of this seemingly new house, surrounded by trees and more houses.

'Hello, home.'
His mom and dad and his sister all went inside, carrying what they could and leaving the rest for Rin. He stood outside of the house for awhile, admiring and absorbing what his weary mind could at the moment.

'Hi!'
He hears a woman's voice come from behind him and turns around to greet the person back. This was to be his first encounter with a foreign person, not counting the flight attendants of course.

'He-hello.' He stutters a bit.

'I'm April. What's your name?'
He stares at this girl, who stands in front of him smiling from ear to ear. Her eyes were as beautiful as the snow, her hair long and flowing behind her, and her voice was warm.

'I'm R-Rin. Nice t-to meet you. He he.'  He laughs nervously while answering.

'Nice to meet you too! Let's be friends, right? ' She giggles cutely, that Rin could not stop staring for a quarter of a second.

'S-sure!'
'See you around, Rin!' as she waves him goodbye, her angelic smile in tow and turns around.

'Y-yeah. Bye.' she was already gone by the time he raised his hand to wave goodbye.

He hears his mom call him from inside, telling him to carry the other stuff in. He inhales the cold air, yawning as he does so, and walks inside.

It was his first day in this freezing new world, but the smile his new friend shot him made him warm.
