Altering tides

Altering tides

A Poem by Christopher Staab
"

Religious themed

"
I walked to the top of Everest
and when I got there
I got my shovel out
and dug up that cross
once left behind
as a symbol.

I meditated.
I called for the Buddha.
i centered life for one small instance
and realized life is made
beyond the pageantry
of some Christian God
that has kept
me alone
worshipping my own failed existance.

I prayed.
Talked to Jesus this time,
told him I must move beyond
sole preservation
of one Religious Ideology
and stop battling
with those demons
summonded by the anti-Christ.

I was renewed.
I buried some salty pork bones
I had left over
as my symbol
of a new generation.

One filled with new ideals,
new loves,
where everything
was alright,
and everything
was treasured.

How interesting. This poem seems to wrestle with the question of spirituality versus religion, and ends up leaving the reader feeling the speaker made the right choice.

I got the sense of a person leaving behind the dogma of religions and the spiritual icons such as jesus and budha to a love of everything, the realization perhaps, of the infinite value intrinsic to everything in this universe including ourselves.
