Just a primate

Just a primate

A Poem by Christopher Staab
"

Just some thoughts.

"
Every time anohter body drops,
my desperation
to murder that drug
confines me to isolate
myself and drink one
after the other.

I wake up with cans
all around me
and remember the days
when I looked down
upon people like this.

I realize I have become
something of a monster.

Some primate
subordinate
to the insects.

When the drunk recognizes he has become what he once despised. Could apply to any addiction, failure, loss of sense of self worth.

Yes exactly. Thank you for commenting and reading.
I had to read this one more than once. I thought it was very good. Its a pretty harsh self analysis - but it resonates with truth and sadness. personally, i would view someone in such a situation more so as a victim of alcohol abuse however perhaps from their own perspective they identify with a monster, a failure, a lesser being unable to defeat an addiction. Tiny typo in line 1. overall very much enjoyed and i look forward to reading more of your poems. eternal health, happiness, and prosperity to you my friend.
